Life Journey of Mr. Mohit Nijhawan – Founder of Greenu Microgreens
Mr. Mohit Nijhawan began his professional career in the pharmaceutical industry, rising to the position of regional head at Sanofi-Genzyme by 2020. However, personal tragedy struck when he lost close family members to cancer, prompting him to reevaluate his lifestyle choices and dietary habits that contribute to disease.
In December 2020, Mohit made a life-altering decision: he resigned from his high-paying multinational corporation (MNC) role, where he earned approximately ₹90 lakh per annum, to embark on a mission to promote healthier, chemical-free nutrition. This led him to explore microgreens farming, which evolved into his life’s work.
His first venture began in early 2021 but ended in setback due to a partner’s betrayal. Undeterred, Mohit restarted in May 2022 with just ₹30,000 and a rented 100 sq ft space in Chandigarh. He established a vertical indoor farm using three racks, trays, grow lights, and seeds, initially focusing on 21 organic varieties and strictly adhering to non-GMO, pesticide-free methods.
Since then, Greenu Microgreens has grown significantly. The operation now spans a 500 sq ft facility, equipped with about 60 racks capable of producing 12,000 trays per month. Selling at approximately ₹200 per tray, the business generates a monthly turnover of ₹12 lakh, with a net profit of around ₹4.8 lakh.
Mohit serves a diverse customer base, including health-conscious individuals, restaurants, gyms, cafes, and even oncologists who have started to prescribe microgreens as part of dietary interventions. One early client, an oncologist based in Chandigarh, was so impressed by the health benefits of microgreens that he began recommending them to his patients.
Beyond growing fresh microgreens, Mohit is deeply committed to empowering others. Through Greenu, he has trained over 300 farmers and aspiring entrepreneurs across India. His training programs include kits and seeds for microgreens cultivation, offered at minimal fees, and support for franchise setups in cities such as Ambala, Gurugram, Mohali, and Panchkula.
Using sustainable vertical farming techniques, organic media like cocopeat and coco fiber, and careful environmental control (temperature, humidity, airflow), Mohit ensures maximum nutritional value—often distributing microgreens live with roots to retain freshness and vitamins.
On LinkedIn, he shares insights regularly, featuring posts like “Meet Mohit Nijhawan – the green guru behind Greenu!” and updates celebrating the sale of over 6,000 trays each month. He emphasizes that his work is not merely a business venture, but a holistic mission to transform perceptions of food and health.
Led by Mohit’s vision, Embryonic Greens Pvt. Ltd., operating under the Greenu brand, represents a fusion of science, organic agriculture, and social impact. From its humble beginnings in a small room, it has become a turning point in nutrition-focused entrepreneurship, exemplifying resilience, purpose, and innovation.
Mohit’s core mission is clear: to make nutrient-dense, chemical-free microgreens accessible to every household while empowering others to replicate the model with minimal space and investment. His story reflects a transformation from personal tragedy to positive change and a life devoted to health, nutrition, and meaningful impact.
